Cabosa Soccer Tournament

Had a weekend trip for Pecho's Cabosa Soccer tournament. They did great! And by great I mean they won the whole damn thing! Haha. Champions! Pecho had 3 assists and 1 goal. I couldn't be more proud of my boy. He puts so much of his heart in everything that he does. It just shines through in moments like this.

People ask all the time how do we stay vegan when we travel. There are several ways to answer that. One is to stay prepared. We like to bring our own food around in case we don't find much, but we almost always do. We bring watermelon, grapes, bananas, avocados, and our mini blender where ever we go. Two is that we aren't afraid to ask for the ingredients. For example we ate breakfast at the hotel both mornings and we had tons of options: oatmeal, grits, bananas, apples, toast, jelly, juice, teas and tons more. We weren't sure about some of the bread and the lady working there kindly brought out the packaging to show us the ingredients and we were able to decide from there. People are much nicer than we tend to make them out to be in our minds. If we asks kindly and with patience people tend to respond back in the same way.

Not that cute, but damn good. Had a few rounds of this.

Just Be Happy || Now

We tend to restrict ourselves more than anyone else does and we need to stop. We give ourselves barriers that aren't actually there. We need to stop pushing ourselves down and start to elevate ourselves and others. Made this terrible quality, shaky, unedited video to prove that. Haha.

Happy Thursday!

Doc || Virunga

Virunga is an amazing story about the brave rangers that put their lives on the line to protect the incredible Virunga national park. This documentary shows the injustices done not only to the animals of this area but also to the people. With the oils moguls trying to just profit on the land, they are willing to just pay off the residents. These people are being exploited because of their financial instabilities. It is unbelievable to know that these type of companies
can go along and not think twice about what their profit and bottom line really mean to this planet, the animals, and the people. It is grand to the rangers of this beautiful park fight so hard to keep it intact and for the people. A must see. Please inform others to watch this film as well.

Happy Wednesday everyone.

Eco Upgrade || Utensils

Bringing your lunch to work or school can not only help you keep on track with your eating habits but can also save you a bit of money as well.  Zac and I have been bringing our lunches to work for a very long time now. We always try to bring our forks or spoons from home but when we would forget and then just use the plastic forks that were available in the break room. We just invested in To Go Ware. It is the creative alternative to using traditional plastic utensils. Now that we have these we just attach them to our book sacks when we are done rinsing them and we are good to go (pun intend)  haha. With the handy hook we will always have them on hand, whether we are eating lunch at the office or eating some take out at the park.

Happy Thursday ya'll!

Doc || The True Cost

The True Cost  is an absolute must see. Watching documentaries that change my life choices is what I live for. Discovering new information and basing my decisions on them is the clear and scientific way of processing of information that I  have grown to adapt into my life. Shopping has always been fun and it can still remain but if there is as little harm in the process. The True Cost shows the incredible damage that is being done by the "Fast Fashion" industry. By creating new clothing and also new products all together we are using cheaper and cheaper labor and material to keep up with the cheap demand. What we tend to forget are the people making these products. I have now made a change in my shopping habits. I want to purchase products from ethical, fair trade, quality materials. By supporting companies that use these ethics I am casting my vote for a better world. I can't wait to start researching quality brands in all branches of products.

Hope everyone's week is going great!

Vegan Eats || Texas || Austin

This past weekend we took a fun vegan foodie trip to Austin and it was delicious above anything. We first drove to Houston to see our cousins, then the next day we drove to Austin, then back to Houston. While in Houston we decided to take our cousins out and about for some vegan food. They were very curious and to their surprise, they loved it! It is so amazing too see young kids enjoying the thought of veganism so much. Sometimes all they need is exposure to it. Showing to people young and old that being vegan doesn't have to be a hassle, it doesn't have to be a drag, can interest them alot more. It can be as simple as a smoothie or as complex as a fine dinning meal. We had an amazing time taking about the benefits of a vegan life style on health, animals and the planet as a whole. It was an amazing trip and can't wait to go back and explore some more.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday!

Doc || Paradise or Oblivion

Came about this documentary at Top Documentary Films . It is called Paradise or Oblivion, and it speaks on the drastic changes that need to occur not only in our political and free market way of thinking, but also our entire view of society to make positive changes to for well being of the planet and humanity as a whole. It gives amazing insight as to where our future can lead us if we make these positive changes. I have to admit it is sometimes too perfect to wrap my head around. The living project is called The Venus Project. It is absolutely mind blowing how much work and effort goes into these ideas. The approach uses science as apposed to politics and profit to make decisions. Which in my opinion, that is how we should be handling things anyways. It would take inventory of all of our resources and work with them instead of just using them all up and figuring out a plan later. These are some serious preventive actions. Their site has tons of useful information on it as well. I guess we will see where the future takes us.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Mowgli for the day || Dirty Girl

"Happier than a pig in mud" is no joke. Especially when it comes to Mowgli. She loves to just walk around, find a nice little mud hole and just relax. We tend to help her out by putting a few bucket fulls of water into the holes that she digs. See pigs need mud holes or things of that nature for temperature control. Since they don't have sweat glands like we do they must find external ways to keep cool. And boy does a mud hole do the job. We live in southern Louisiana and it tends to get pretty hot during the summers, so we keep her mud holes nice and wet for her to go in and out as she pleases. She loves being super muddy and rubbing herself on your clothes, especially when you are about to go to work. Haha.

I hope everyone is finding fun ways to keep cool this summer!

Adventure || Alabama || Gulf Shores

Love me a good weekend trip. So my brother and I decided to take a quick trip to the beach on Saturday. We just got in the car, picked up our cousin Bryan and friend Hunter and went off. From where we live Gulf Shores, Alabama is only about a 4 hour drive, not bad at all. But about 2 minutes in we got hungry so we stopped by a Whole Foods to fuel up. We had a little bit of everything. Some pizza, spring rolls, salad, chips, sushi, you know normal meal type stuff. Haha. We got back on the road and headed towards the water. Honestly being on the road is sometimes the most entertaining part.

We were able to get a good early start on the beach at 6:00 a.m. We had a quick and easy breakfast of bananas and dates .The temperature was perfect to just sit and watch the waves. As it got warmer we popped our watermelons out and dug in. By the way avocados and chips on the beach, best idea ever. Although at some point my avocado got super sandy. Haha. Once it was reasonably hot we jumped in the water. We had so much fun just splashing around. Going in and out of silly souvenir shops to cool off was a must. As the sun went down we played a quick game of pick up beach soccer to wrap up the day. It was quite the adventure. Going anywhere with good food and good company is always a good idea.

We are hoping to get back on the road this weekend.

Happy Monday!
