What a vegan athlete eats || Halloween Blast Tournament

I get asked frequently if it is possible to sustain a highly active lifestyle on a vegan diet and the answer is yes of course! I am not what you would consider an athlete. I am very active and enjoy sports but my brother on the other hand is a full blown athlete. Soccer player, track and cross country runner, he fits all of the criteria. And yes he is vegan. I thought that his Halloween Blast Soccer Tournament would be the perfect opportunity to show what he eats to stay prepared for the intensity of the games. 





Breakfast: 

  • Two bowls of oatmeal with sliced bananas
  • Banana dipped in peanut butter
  • Banana smoothie (almond milk, bananas, vegan protein)
  • TONS of water
Snacks:
  • Grapes
  • Bananas
  • Mango Juice
  • Peanut butter and jelly sandwich
  • Cliff bars
Lunch:
  • Several large boiled potatoes
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Mango juice
  • TONS of water
Dinner:
  • Pasta
  • French Bread
  • Banana smoothie (almond milk, bananas, vegan protein
  • TONS of water

This is just a very basic sample of what he eats during tournaments. It changes frequently based on what he wants or how strenuous the tournament was. A key factor when eating vegan with a highly active lifestyle is to get enough food in you. Plant based foods are more commonly lower in calories so you really want to get those calories in. Remember to always stay hydrated! Vegan or not this is extremely important. By fueling yourself with the best you will feel your best. 

Oh and hey the Dynamo Juniors got second in the tournament! So proud of my #11!
