Newborn Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe

Hey ya'll. I just wanted to make a real quick video showing Luna's capsule wardrobe. Super simple, gender neutral and just the basics. I have a few pieces that were in no way essential, just cute, that I got her.

A few tips to not go crazy buying newborn clothes

  • Buy older size clothing. So this doesn't prevent you from buying more clothes, but by buying clothes for when they are a bit older it allows them to wear them more than once. When I was pregnant there was no way I wouldn't shop for clothes (new or second hand, I just wanted to get her things lol). What I did was look for clothes that were bigger in size, 6 months on up.
  • Splurge on only a FEW clothing items when they are newborn. Again they grow out of all of their newborn clothes so fast, you don't wanna break the bank on something that they might not even get a chance to wear.
  • You DON'T have to buy all of their clothes at once. This may come as a surprise, but it is not the end of the world if you don't have every single possible thing before they are born. It is alllll gonna be okay. What ever you might be missing you can just pick up once they are here.
  • Random tip : newborn sizes are just like adult sizes, ALL DIFFERENT by brand. So sure you might have 5 different newborn onsies and they will all be different sizes. Lol.

Hope ya'll are having an awesome week so far!

October is here. Cannot get over the fact that we are almost done with the year! Crazzzzy. Well here are my awesome goodies from this month's Petit Vour box.

This month's theme is Kiss kiss!

  • Red Apple Lipstick lipstick | $23.50  @redapplelgirls
    • Absolutly stunning. This full size lipstick is my new go to lipstick. Does not come out of my bag. These little bad boys are small batched made, non-toxic, and gluten-free.
  • Apoterra Skincare Tulsi Body Oil | $7 (full size $28) @apoterraskincare
    • Body oil! Wooo! Haha. Ya'll already know how I feel about facial and body oils. This one of course is bomb. I use it once a day after getting out of the shower. It leaves your skin feeling incredible. Also this oil can be used as a massage oil as well!
  • Kahina Giving Beauty Beldi Soap | $5 (full size $38) @kahinagivingbeauty
    • This is by far one of my favorite things that I have ever gotten in my Petit Vour box. This soap is not like anything I had ever tried before. I used mine as a skin cleanser/softener. I just massaged it into my skin while in the shower and left it on for about 10 minutes, much like how you would use a leave in hair treatment, but for your skin. So much fun to use and you feel as though you just walked out of the spa.
  • Pai Serum Concentrate | $3 (full size $40) @paiskincare
    • Serummmmmmmmmm. What's so awesome about these boxes is that by the time my new box comes in I was already running low on the previous box's stuff. I was just about to be out of my last serum when this amazing Pai serum comes into play. This one is a firming serum for sure. You can feel it instanly. I use only about 2 drops at night and trust me you don't need much more than that every night.

Minimalist Packing || Week in Costa Rica

Packing can be a huge drag! But the reality of the matter is that it doesn't have to be at all. After years of traveling I have learned that less is more. Less headaches, less stress, less likely to loose shit all over the place. Haha. Here is a little video showing ya'll what I am bringing on my week long trip to Costa Rica.

Petit Vour September Unboxing

It's fall ya'll! That means my Peit Vour September box came in. So excited to show you guys what kind of goodies I received this month.

This month's theme is What A Gem!

  • Osea Ocean Cleanser | $16 (full size $44) @oseamalibu
    • Super duper refreshing! I have been using this cleanser for about a week and a half now and I can't get enough of it. It leaves my skin feeling nice and clean with out drying it out.
  • Meow Meow Tweet Baking Soda Free Deodorant Cream | $14 @meowmeowtweet
    • I love me some natural, zero waste deodorant. I was so excited to see this little beauty in my box this month. Like all jar deodorants, there is some getting use to the application method. We are all very use to the conventional way that it may seem a little weird to rub some directly from the jar to your arm pit. Haha. But it works and smells great!
  • Adorn Mineral & Organic Hydrating Cream Foundation | $4 (full size $50) @adorncosmetics
    • Fantastic foundation! This is def one of the higher coverage foundations that I have used. My fear with higher coverage foundations is that I would feel like I have a layer of goop on my face but the folks down at Adorn have got the formulation for this down packed.
  • Odacite Serum Concentrate | $3 (full size $32-42) @odacite
    • Ya'll already know how obsessed I am with serums and oils, so when I saw this gem (haha see what I did there?) I was stoked! I have been using this serum once at night and once in the morning after washing my face. It is very absorbent. And VERY potent, so you only need to use a few drops.

Herbs + Oils Bath

Kinda going a little crazy over Herbs + Oils Bath shop on Etsy. I absolutely love finding shops that hit every single mark in what I'm looking for:

Vegan/Cruelty free/Natural/Minimal/US made/Ecofriendly/Effective

I mean could I ask for more! I have so many of their items favorited for future purchasing. I truly cannot get over the love and dedication that they put into every product. I got my hands on their Balance Face Oil and could not be happier. I am a freak for face oils and I tell everyone who is intimidated by it (for fear of getting greasy face) that they just need to find an oil that works for them. This one is perfect for mine. (I have normal/combination skin) I apply it once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I typically wear none to very minimal makeup on a daily basis so it doesn't affect it. One of the factors that people fear the most of face oils in the tendency for them to stay on the top layer of the skin. With my Balance Face Oil it is absorbed into my skin within a minute. It has left my skin looking, feeling, and actually being healthier. It's sad but I actually cannot wait to run out so that I can try everything that they have to offer! Haha.

Here are a few words from the shop:

6 Month Zero Waste Update

Doc || Live and Let Live

Live and Let Live. Simple enough right? I mean, isn' that what we would all want. To live in a peaceful world where we don't harm one another. What we have all been taught to do. Because why on earth would we want to harm others? That is exactly what the documentary Live and Let Live is all about. This incredible film speaks about the relationship that we have created with animals around us. How we have forgotten the fact that these creatures are sentient beings and portray and treat them as products. By disconnecting ourselves from the reality we do not question our actions. We go along day by day not questioning our life choices and the consequences that those choices have. I was no different. I never thought twice about what I was doing. Not realizing that I had blood on my hands, for every damn meal. I hear people comment all the time about how "over dramatic" vegans are. How is it "over dramatic" to stand up for innocent beings who are being slaughtered every single day? We must all step up and speak out in any way we can. We must be the voice for the voiceless.

Must watch documentary. Available on Netflix.

Petit Vour August Unboxing

That time again! This time with my August Petit Vour box. Got some awesome vegan & cruelty free goodies this month!

This month's theme is Green Beauty Bliss, how fancy is that!
  • Lily Lolo Sculpt & Glow Contour Duo | $26 @lillolousacanada
    • One word. YAS. I have been looking for a contour pallet and my god is this one brilliant. Not that I am a makeup expert by any means but the blend-ability of this pallet is to die for.

  • Formulary 55 Body Polish Sea minerals with Rosemary & Grapefruit | $7 @formulary55
    • Scrub a dub dub. This body scrub has a wonderful subtle sent. I like to get my scrub on hard, but if you have more gentle skin you can always mix it with a bit of coconut oil and it will do the trick.

  • True Moringa Lavender Facial Oil | $3 (full size $26) @truemoringa
    • I had just ran out of last month's box face oil so this one was perfect for me. This facial oil is very awesome for those who are kinda scared to put an oil on their face. It absorbs into the skin super quickly so you don't feel like a french fry.

  • Box Naturals Luxe Towelettes | $1.50 for 2 (box of 12 $9)
    • I have always stayed away from towelettes because most of them leave you with a really strange resedue that sometimes makes you feel sticky-er than before, not a problem with these guys. These wipes will actually leave you feeling clean with out the stickiness.

Vegan snacks for the win! Got ahold of Splitz, tasty split pea crips. They have the texture of a cracker with none of the crazy ingredients. These awesome snacks pack a punch! My husband and I split (pun intended) all three bags and I decided that my favorite was the original and he decided that his favorite was the falafel flavored. I am totally a chips person so this was a gift from above for me. Haha.

A few words from Michael Sukhram (Founder)

A snack with two sides - the tasty kick of infused exotic spices and the feel-good benefits of natural ingredients. That’s what you get with SPLITZ, the unmistakably crunchy split pea crisps that are made to be munched by the handful. How? Well, the ridiculously great flavor’s a start - a blend of Indian and Caribbean spices my mother used in her own split pea snacks that I grew up devouring.
Then there’s the healthy side, thanks to fiber and protein found in 100% yellow split peas. And it doesn’t hurt that each gluten-free bag of SPLITZ is completely GMO-free. Line ‘em up next to potato and corn snacks and you’ll see how SPLITZ stands a little stronger, sounds a little crunchier and tastes a whole lot better.
Put ‘em in your hand and they won’t leave a trace, because the exotic tastes of SPLITZ are infused right into each crisp. We put the flavor in, so you can snack on. I’m proud to bring this unique snack to you.

Protein, Fiber, No Gluten, Soy or GMOs

Split peas, the main ingredient in Splitz, are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber forms a “gel-like substance in the digestive tract that binds bile (which contains cholesterol) and carries it out of the body.” You receive 7g of fiber from one 1.5oz bag of Splitz. That’s almost half the amount required based on a 2,000-calorie/day diet.

Stabilizing Blood Sugar
Soluble fiber helps stabilize blood sugar levels. For people who have diabetes, the fiber contained in split peas/Splitz can help to balance blood sugar levels. Studies have shown that diets high in fiber can help balance blood sugar levels and provide slow burning energy. Research by Colorado State University Extension indicates that soluble fiber “aids in weight management by enhancing the feeling of fullness.” Specifically, results displayed that high fiber diets provide a “full” feeling because of its water-absorbing abilities.
Split peas are packed with protein; one 1.5oz bag of Splitz contains 7g of protein(Original). Protein also plays a role in helping you feel “full” for an extended period of time because the body normally takes longer to digest protein.
Complex Carbohydrates
The split peas in Splitz contain complex carbohydrates, which are healthier than the simple carbohydrates found in sugar-based foods. Complex carbs can help you sustain consistent energy levels over periods of time.
Gluten Free
Splitz are made from 100 percent yellow split pea flour so there is no gluten inside.
Splitz contains non-GMO expeller pressed canola oil.

All bags of Splitz are composed of 100 percent Yellow Split Peas, no fillers or additives.Made in U.S.A

The Tiny Collection

Fellin tropical ya'll. So in fact I cannot live year around thinking that it is fall, especially when it is 102 degrees outside. (I'll figure out a way to do this successfully and let you know) I decided to get my hands on some killer summery candles. That's when The Tiny Collection caught my eye. It is a vegan/eco-conscious shop making bomb candles! Their smell combinations is what really got to me. Reading some of these made me imagine myself in paradise.

I got my hands on the coconut lime and pineapple sage scent. I found it extra awesome because the lotion and body spray that I use have a coconut lime scent so now my office smells like me! Bahah. And boy do these little suckers pack a punch. In just a few minutes the smell spread around and I was basically at the beach.

Below are some words from the lady behind the magic, Sydney- who is the owner of The Tiny Collection. Happy Wednesday ya'll!

My name is Sydney and I am the owner of The Tiny Collection. I opened my shop in 2013 because of my love for all things natural (plus, I'm sort of a candle hoarder). I was so excited when this idea hit me! I could combine the two things I loved... earth-conscious products and candles! I swear, there really was a light bulb that went off in my head. So now we are here... My shop is two years old and I am still in love with what I do. Enough about me, keep reading below to find more info on my shop!

Each candle is hand poured from a small batch filled with a lot of love. It is definitely something special to create natural, high quality candles for my customers. I work very hard to ensure my customers receive a candle that not only smells delicious but a candle they fall in love with as soon as they open the package. Every single step in our candle making process is filled with love. A lovely customer once told me that she was so grateful to have finally found a natural candle that not only smells amazing but burned beautifully as well. She has continued to support us throughout our journey.

Let's make the world a better place. By choosing our candles you are choosing a candle that's not only safe for you but it is safe for the environment. Our candles are crafted form the most natural soy wax made from soy beans grown here in the US. Our candles are infused with a natural fragrance blend that includes pure essential oils. We refuse to use any animal products or byproducts. We will never use any ingredient that has been tested on animals. We take pride in using earth friendly and sustainable supplies. Whether it's supplies directly used in our candles or the boxes we use to ship, all of our supplies is either biodegradable, or recyclable. We want to thank you for being a part in reducing our carbon footprint. This Earth is a beautiful place and we should do our very best to keep it that way. Thanks for supporting an earth friendly, small business.

Burn a candle that gives back. Growing up, I have always had a dog. I love them so much because they are always there for you no matter what! I am a proud dog mom of three beautiful fur babies. It breaks my heart knowing some dogs and cats have yet to find their forever home. This is why I decided to donate a portion of each candle to various animal shelters. I am so grateful for all of my customers because without them we could not touch the loves of so many amazing animals in need. Thank you all for supporting not only my passion but for providing the animals with shelter, food, and a warm bed.

Vegan Mama || Aspen: The Ballards

Good mornin' ya'll! Found me a little vegan family. The Ballards are a little vegan family of 5 that love to explore and eat awesome vegan food. I got to interview the mama of the bunch, Aspen. Everyone needs to go head to their blog and see the adventures they get into! Check them out here The Bellards Blog

-Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi beautiful people! My name is Aspen, I run the blog and a household of five! I was going to school for Biochemistry so I could apply to medical school. I was almost completely done with school when I realized; YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A SINGLE NUTRITION CLASS TO BECOME A DOCTOR! Like, what?! I truly believe with every ounce of my being that true, organic, micronutrient dense food heals and it blew my mind. Don't get me wrong, I think that modern medicine is amazing. But you know what I don't think is amazing? Big Pharma. I never understood why my doctor would tell me to take an iron pill when I was pregnant....I'd rather just eat some beets! Again, don't think I am dissing modern medicine, because my last son and I wouldn't be here without incredible doctors and life saving procedures....but why is medicine always the first option? After that I switched to a nutrition degree to focus on holistic nutrition and healing common ailments with food!

I have three kids, Lo (7), Foster (3) and River (1). Foster and River are fully vegan kids but because I share custody with Lo's dad when she visits him she does not follow it there. My honey is a firefighter in our home town. It took him a lot longer to switch to the vegan lifestyle than me because "but where will I get my protein?" *insert major eyeball* but after finally getting him to try it there is no looking back.

- What is your vegan story? Why and how you transitioned?

I have been on and off vegetarian since 6th grade. It was very hard to stick with it when you live in a meat and potatoes household. It wasn't until I was an adult and started looking at how my body was feeling that I realized something wasn't right. I cannot digest meat! I have an allergy to red meat, but since we rarely ate it, it wasn't a big deal. Cutting all the additional meat products wasn't hard for me either. My kids didn't really like them and they upset my stomach. But the cheese....that was another story. I'm not going to lie and say it was easy but the feeling I get being vegan far surpasses the craving that eventually passed.

- Did you have any opposition when you told your family and friends that your child would be vegan?

Oh my gosh. So much. My family (not husband but parents and grandparents) were so against it. They would refuse to acknowledge it and my grandma would go so far as to buy animal products and bring them to our home because she thought us and the kids weren't getting enough food! Which is just so crazy to me. I finally had to put my foot down and stand my ground and tell them they had to respect my decision because it was just that, my decision. The only problem I have had now is when my grandma watches the kids she tries to sneak them ice-cream or cheese or chicken. So I just bring their food over that they can have (coconut ice-cream, cashew cheese, fruit and veggies, etc) so she can easily give it to them and she doesn't feel like they're missing out.

-What is some advice that you can give to fellow vegan mamas?

Stick to your guns. If this is how you want to live your life then do it. Don't let the naysayers get you down because they will see how good this is for you. Maybe not right away, maybe not for months, but they'll see it. Another thing is stock up on things you love, your family loves and things that are easy! Don't make it difficult. Smoothies, tacos, rice, rice pasta, salads, stir-frys and loads of fresh fruit and veggies at your fingertips keeps everyone happy. I know how hard it is to be exhausted then have to make dinner. Sometimes you just have to have pasta!

Vegan Mama || Dori Lancaster

Good monrin' ya'll! Hope everyone is having a good week. Today I would like to introduce to you Dori Lancaster, the beautiful lady behind I was so inspired scrolling through her feed that I just had to get an interview with her.  Not to mention how freaken cute Alana her little one is! Enjoy the interview.

What is your vegan story? Why and how you transitioned?

I stopped consuming red meat and pork at the age of 16 (I’m 38 now). I was influenced by a friend from school who was an ethical vegetarian. Around the age of 28, I met another vegan girl who I worked with and she helped me “see the light” and I learned a lot about how to function on a daily basis, since we ate lunch together almost every day! She made being vegan look so easy, and she was also an amazing vegan baker and would bring home made vegan cookies to work all the time! Although at that time, I didn’t transition fully, I did learn a lot, and still hold her dear in my heart as one of my “vegan soul sister guides”. She also is raising two girls vegan in a multivore household (her hubby consumes meat), so I’m often asking her advice! In between the years between then and now, I experimented with different versions of vegetarian, pescatarian and finally went full vegan in 2010. I come from a family with a history of diabetes and 5 of my relatives have had gastric bypass surgery, so my position first started as a preventative one vs. an ethical one, and then the more I educated myself, the more I could not help care more deeply about the poor treatment of animals as food.

Did you have any opposition when you told your family and friends that your child would be vegan?

Most people  expected that I would want to raise a vegan child, and my family and friends respect my choice. I wouldn’t say I had opposition. I think I’ve had some “misunderstanding”, as some people are a bit uneducated on what it actually means to be vegan. When people do not have all the information, sometimes they ask questions to become more educated themselves, or sometimes they just call you a hippie and go on about their day, walking around with the (faux) wool still covering their eyes.

What is some advice that you can give to fellow vegan mamas?

Do YOU, mamas! Trust yourself and your inner wisdom to guide you in raising happy, healthy, thriving, plant based children. I think it’s such a gift to give this kind of start to a new little human! You’re giving them a clean and fresh start, and when it comes time for them to start making their own choices about food, it’s your job to educate them so they can make conscious choices. Living by example is the best position you can take! Live in love, and if people around you seem opposed, educate them lovingly, or walk away. You are helping to make the world a more harmonious and healthy place! Rock on with your healthy vegan babies!!

A to Z Candles

Happy Wednesday! Hope everyone's week is going great. I got the fantastic chance to interview the lovely Amanda from A to Z Candles. Not only does she have an awesome vegan shop but is also pretty damn awesome herself. I cannot say this enough but we all need to support these amazing vegan centered shops. We the consumer are able to bring so much change to the system by using our dollar power for good.

I even got my hands on her Man Cave candle! Which happens to be my favorite smell. I also got an incredible melt. My whole house smells absolutely fantastic. Well without further or due. Here is my interview with A to Z Candles.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! My name is Amanda and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I spend most days relaxing and spending time with my husband, daughter, and my dog, Max. I enjoy going to concerts, eating lots of vegan food, and of course, making candles!

I wish we had computer smelly sense because your shop sounds divine! How did you get into candle making?
I have been a fan of home fragrance for years. But the products I was buying began to give me headaches and irritated my asthma.  After realizing the ingredients in most candles and melts, I decided to move to soy wax from paraffin. I wanted more fragrance choices with the soy, so I decided I wanted to make them myself! I started with candles, then added melts. I now also carry car air freshener (sachets) and reed diffuser kits as well. To make sure I have something for any budget, my candles come in five different sizes.

I love love love that your products are vegan and cruelty free! How did you fall into creating vegan products?
I've been vegan since September 2014, so naturally I wanted to start a vegan friendly business. I did extensive research on the wax and fragrances I use to make sure nothing was animal tested or had any trace of animal byproducts. Once I knew my supplies were vegan, it was game on!  My wax is free of genetically modified materials, pesticides, and herbicides.  My fragrance oils are made with premium ingredients without harmful chemicals. Some of my fragrance oils even have essential oils mixed into them. My wicks are 100% cotton.

What are some future plans for your shop?
My plan is to keep growing!  Adding new fragrances, and possibly new products. I'm always finding something to change or to improve on.  I hope to be able to open my own website outside of Etsy in the next year as well.
